Active and Lively Throughout the Year

Off into nature! Southeastern Upper Bavaria is a paradise for outdoor sports enthusiasts. In winter as well as in summer, you will find many opportunities to actively shape your days: skiing and snowboarding, sledding, ice skating, hiking and mountaineering, cycling and mountain biking, golfing, sailing, horseback riding, and swimming. On this page you can find tips and suggestions.
Downhill and Cross-Country Skiing

Hochfelln and Ruhpolding
In winter the Hochfelln offers excellent downhill runs with 6 lifts for skiers and snowboarders. These are suitable for experts as well as  for beginners.
From Ruhpolding, you can use the Unternbergbahn, a double chair lift or two surface lifts. Budget family deals are available.

Cross-country skiers' paradise Ruhpolding offers an over 60-km network of runs. Here you can visit the run where every year thousands of fans watch the Biathlon World Cup. Nordic Cruising, classical cross-country skiing and skating at its finest.

Sledding and Ice Skating

Hochplatten and Inzell
The downhill sleigh ride to Marquartstein from the summit station of the Hochplattenbahn at Siegsdorf takes approximately 10 minutes. Further natural toboggan runs are situated in the nearby Kaiser mountains as well as in the Prien and Inn valleys.
For more than 40 years the speed-skating elite has trained and competed at the Inzell stadium;  the ice masters of Inzell are internationally famous. Test the 400-meter track or turn pirouettes on the hockey field. In Inzell you can not only skate on particularly good ice, but also do so against a magnificent backdrop. The Falkenstein and Kienbergl rise majestically right next to the stadium. Ice skates are available for all at the skating rink.
Mountaineering

Fantastic hiking destinations in the immediate vicinity of Waging surround the Högl at Piding. For example, you can walk from the village of Steinhögl through old mixed forests up to the Stroblalm. Also the Teisenberg near Teisendorf offers beautiful walks through alpine pastures which are farmed in the summer. Ambitious hikers and climbers will find unlimited possibilities in the mountains around Bad Reichenhall and Berchtesgaden. From the " simple " Kneifelspitze with its impressive panorama, to the "moderately difficult " Zwiesel to the " very challenging " Watzmann, with equipment, ability and fitness, anything is possible .

Anthal Golf Course

The perfectly sculpted hill terrain in the Alpine foothills of Bavaria, consisting of hardwood forests, and the overgrown Götzinger Ache with its biotopes distinguish the Anthal Golf Course. A characteristic feature is the " Stone Creek," a sunbaked stream, whose  water presents an obstacle to the course at several places and  also represents a challenge for experienced players.
The deer park located at the edge of the course emphasizes a symbiosis with nature.
Cycling and Mountain Biking

Benedict's Path is a 248-km stretch on which you can bike in the footsteps of Bavarian Pope Benedict XVI. It  leads from Altoetting via Burghausen, Tittmoning, Mayrhofen, Traunstein, Amerang and  Mühldorf  - a total of 21 stations -, back to the starting point.

Mountain Biking
For ambitious mountain bikers, there are many challenges in Chiemgau and its surroundings, such as the Frasdorf Hut,  the Priener Hut, the Hochgern and - for the very athletic - the Kampenwand.
The Warmest Lakes in Upper Bavaria

Lake Waging is separated from Lake Taching just to the south only by a bridged-over strait. The smaller  Lake Leitgering at Tittmoning and Lake Abtsdorfer near Laufen are equally popular. In summer all these lakes quickly reach agreeable temperatures for bathing. The " Bavarian sea," as the Chiemsee is called, is the largest lake in Bavaria and its pebble beaches evoke the Mediterranean.
