The area around Waging is an old cultural region and therefore has much to offer in this respect. Beautiful towns built in the Inn-Salzach style, like Burghausen, Tittmoning and Laufen, remind one of the former richness of its citizens through the salt trade along the Salzach River. Castles and palaces tell about the life of their inhabitants. Get to know Rupertiwinkel and the Chiemgau better. Here are some tips.
Tittmoning Castle and Museum


Tittmoning Castle
Tittmoning Castle, as a sovereign border fortification, belongs to Salzburg's main strongholds. It is first mentioned in writing in 1234 and already documented as a fortified city (oppidum ) in 1242.

Museum of Local History
The former sovereign archbishop's castle of Tittmoning with its  unique museum world invites young and old alike to spend an entertaining yet informative visit. In 23 historic show rooms in which original floors and ceilings from the 17th century are exhibited, the " Heimathaus des Rupertiwinkels"  (Community Center of Rupertiwinkel) contains unique and important collections of folk art and much more.
Burghausen Castle and City Museum


The longest castle in Europe
Burghausen Castle is one of the largest and most impressive fortresses in Europe. The stunning fortress is the longest fortification in Europe. Every year in the spring, Burghausen hosts the famous Jazz Festival, and the old town on the river stands out as an atmospheric backdrop.

City Museum Burghausen
The City Museum is housed on the former premises of the bower. Spread over four floors, the museum exhibits its extensive collection in thirty rooms. Conceived as a local history museum, the museum gives an overview of the past, art and culture of Burghausen and its surroundings.

Hohensalzburg Fortress
The fortress is the largest completely preserved fortress in Central Europe and can be visited all year round. Artists from all over the world meet here for  the courses held at the International Summer Academy. In addition, events are held on the medieval premises, in the romantic courtyard and on the bastions on a regular basis.

House of Nature
This museum offers exhibitions on the fields of animate and inanimate nature. Especially popular with adults and children is the aquarium, which is rightly described as one of the most beautiful in Central Europe.

Herrenchiemsee Palace


The construction of Herrenchiemsee Palace by the Bavarian King Ludwig II in 1878 made Lord Island, the largest of the three islands in the Chiemsee, world famous. 
Architectural prototype for the castle was the palace of the Sun King, Louis XIV, in Versailles. Chiemsee steamers can drop you off on the island for a visit of the palace, the various parks and the island museum. 
Amerang EFA Museum


The EFA Museum of  German Automotive History is home to more than 220 German car legends of all trade names; it occupies over 6000 square meters of exhibition space - from the first Benz motor car to the magnificent creations of the 20s and 30s, to the cute small cars of the '50, to the speedy cars of our time. This comprehensive chronology was made possible by loans from the automotive industry, museums and private collectors.
Siegsdorf Mammoth Museum


In the Natural History and  Mammoth Museum in Siegsdorf, one can view, in addition to other finds, a nearly complete mammoth skeleton, found near Siegsdorf in 1975, representing  the largest mammoth skeleton in the world. 250 million years of developmental history up until the present, illustrated fundamentals of geology, the diversity of fossils and the giants of the Ice Age will  make your visit a memorable experience.

Berchtesgaden Castle, National Park

Berchtesgaden Castle  was the summer residence of the Wittelsbach family after 1810 and was once the center of a small clerical state, an Augustinian convent of canons. Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria and his family lived here from 1922 to 1933 and endowed the castle with its art collections.

Berchtesgaden National Park
In the only national park in the German Alps, the Berchtesgaden National Park House is the central point of contact for visitors and locals. In the exhibitions, film screenings, virtual animation and in the library, you can learn everything worthwhile knowing about the National Park. For young visitors a children's corner with a marmot den and a balancing course are available.

Freilassing Locomotive World


The Lokwelt in Freilassing is a must for railway enthusiasts and an attraction for others who are simply interested. Valuable exhibits such as the steam cog-wheel locomotive III, No. 719, the express-train steam locomotive B IX "1000" by Maffei and the E16 can be admired here. The lovingly restored facility brings150 years of railway history to life again .
The core is the roundhouse built in the years1902-1905. In this building containing a total of 20 track platforms, there are locomotives from the German Museum, exhibits on the topic of railroads and a model railway with a faithfully reproduced replica of the railway works at Freilassing.
Waging Baroque Museum


This extraordinary museum is located at the campground in Waging am See. Almost all his life Sebastian Schuhbeck collected Baroque art. The collection has grown steadily in recent decades to become one of the most beautiful and high-quality, predominantly Baroque art collections from the rich cultural area between Munich and Salzburg. Unique exhibits from Bavaria and from other parts of Europe show a representative cross section of the sacred and profane art of the Baroque period 1600-1750. Objects of noble provenance, from church property and of peasant origin can be viewed in the over 400 square meters of exhibition space.
